Kurt Volker has been a recent hot name within the Trump-Ukraine impeachment frenzy. A former John McCain aide, he was at the center of attempting to arrange a meeting with Rudy Giuliani and Ukrainian officials. This came in the course of the former New York City mayor attempting to investigate whether Joe Biden acted corruptly while vice president. My colleague Sara Lee shared some details about Volker this morning in a piece.
Shortly after the Trump call to Zelensky broke as a story, Volker resigned as special envoy to Ukraine, leading many to believe he was doing so out of some kind of impeachment worthy disgust. Given his background working with an organization that pushed the Steele dossier, that actually wasn’t a bad bet.
Surprisingly though, it appears Volker’s testimony fell flat.

“He has said nothing that coincides what the Democrats are saying with their whole impeachment narrative,” said Rep. Jim Jordan, of Ohio, the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee and a staunch supporter of Trump.
Jordan, who appeared alongside a group of conservative Republicans and Trump allies, declined to talk specifically about Volker’s deposition, which is continuing in a secure hearing room in the Capitol.
Jordan described Volker as “unbelievably knowledgeable about what was going on in Ukraine,” and added, “not one thing he has said comports with any of the Democrats’ impeachment narrative. Not one thing.”

Things apparently got so bad that Adam Schiff had to take questioning duties away from his lawyer, clearly in the hopes that he could somehow pry something of use out of Volker.
Hearing from two sources with knowledge of the Volker deposition that Schiff at one point took over questioning from his counsel. One source described that as “unusual” given that staff was supposed to lead, and indicates Dems are “nervous” about how it's going.

They should be nervous. This entire impeachment gambit is falling apart. Trump called their bluff, releasing the transcript and complaint after they had already committed to an impeachment inquiry. It ended up showing no obvious wrongdoing at all.
Then the State Dept. IG called an urgent briefing, giving them new hope that some real evidence was on the way. Nope, it turned out to be repackaged news articles with nothing of value.
Volker was their main hope though. He’s the only (former) administration official on their radar who had the possibility to give them the goods. Instead, his testimony appears to be a bunch of nothing.
You can expect this pattern to continue because there’s simply nothing to find here. Trump made a passing request that Ukraine look into possible corruption. That’s it. There is no impeachable scandal in that and the more Democrats push this, the more they will hurt themselves in the long run.
